About The Fish Site

The Fish Site

The Fish Site is a knowledge-sharing platform with news, analysis and resources for the aquaculture industry. For more than 20 years, it has reported on the sector with the same purpose: to tell the people who farm fish, shrimp, shellfish and seaweed – and anyone else with an interest in aquaculture – what is happening across the industry.

The Fish Site covers aquaculture around the world, from production and technology to science, business and policy. We also report on projects that support healthier aquatic ecosystems, including habitat restoration and biodiversity recovery.

History and ownership

The Fish Site was founded by 5M Enterprises, then owned by Benchmark Holdings, and was acquired by aquaculture investment firm Hatch Blue in 2020. Rob Fletcher led The Fish Site’s editorial coverage from 2017 until the end of 2025.

In 2026, ownership of The Fish Site passed to its then editor, Emma Barbier, an aquaculture scientist by training with a background in fish welfare research and the aquafeed industry. The site is now independently owned, with no parent company and no financial stake in the businesses it covers.

How we work

Editorial independence and trust are central to how we work. We aim to verify and attribute important claims, reflect the weight of the available evidence on contested issues, clearly label opinion and analysis, and disclose relevant commercial interests.

The Fish Site is free to read. After three articles, readers are asked to create a free account. There is no subscription or paywall. The site is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial coverage or conclusions, and sponsored articles are always clearly identified.
